The “Discipline Procedures” section of the College's Student Rights and Responsibilities and Discipline policy, section 2.2 "Academic Dishonesty" explains the formal protocol for addressing academic dishonesty at Lambton College.
Involvement with academic dishonesty procedures begins when the student is notified by his or her faculty member of an alleged incident of academic dishonesty. The faculty member may verbalize concerns directly about academic dishonesty or may send notice via email to the student. The faculty member is then responsible for contacting the relevant Dean in order to provide a detailed account of the incident. This account must be provided within a specified time frame of two working days following the detection of the alleged offence.
The Dean follows-up by scheduling a meeting with the student and the faculty member involved with the incident. The student and faculty member meet together with the Dean within two working days from when the faculty member first submits his or her written notification of the alleged case of academic dishonesty (this two-day time limit can be delayed to not more than five working days if the student requests an extension). At the meeting, the Dean gathers information from both parties regarding the circumstances of the incident. The Dean then deliberates on a course of action.
The Dean can choose to accept the student's explanation of the incident or the Dean can choose to accept the faculty member's explanation. If the Dean determines the incident has involved academic dishonesty, he or she will inform the student and the Registrar in writing of the findings. The Registrar enters the finding of academic dishonesty in the student's academic record.
