Why do I need to log in?
The Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) process allows you to challenge courses at the college based on what you have learned in previous work experience. If you have on-the-job experience that is closely related to a course you must complete as part of your program, you may be eligible to use PLAR to receive credit towards your diploma for that work experience.
Speak to your professor or a counsellor about your specific situation. Look at detailed course outlines and evaluate whether you have sufficient knowledge to pass the course. Usually, but not always, students will be asked to write an exam or comprehensive test in order to complete a PLAR credit.
Registration for PLAR is done through the Counselling Centre. The PLAR fee for each course you complete is $85.35. After paying, a teacher/evaluator will be assigned to evaluate your work and give you a grade for your challenge. Although an exam is the most common challenge, other options exist and your professor/evaluator will discuss these with you.
