Operation of Fire Alarm System:
The fire system, when activated by an automatic detector or manual pull station, will immediately sound all signals continuously throughout the building until deactivated by College personnel.
Warning systems vary from one campus to another; therefore, anyone who is required to attend more than one location should be aware of the various campus fire regulations. All students, faculty and staff should familiarize themselves with the locations of the manual fire alarm stations, fire extinguishers and building exits in order to avoid confusion when a fire emergency arises.
Every member of the college is responsible for observing these procedures in order to ensure the safety of all students and staff. For your own well being, acquaint yourself with the following information.
Procedure to follow when the fire alarm sounds:
When an alarm sounds, do not assume that it is a false alarm LEAVE THE BUILDING AT ONCE!
Procedure to follow when you discover a fire:
ENSURE ANY ACTION YOU TAKE DOES NOT PUT YOUR LIFE IN DANGER!
As a safety measure, any responsible person discovering a fire can notify the fire department by dialling 9-911 on an internal college telephone.
Fire & Public Safety Centre of Excellence: Evacuate and notify the main office if the fire occurs between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. otherwise notify the fire department.
*In all cases, when the alarm stops or when the emergency ends, do not re-enter the building unless directed to do so by authorized college staff or fire department personnel.*
