The Occupational Health and Safety Act provides us with the framework and the tools to achieve an effective safety program. The Occupational Health and Safety Act defines the rights and duties of various workplace parties in establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. The Act reinforces the structures, in particular the Joint Health and Safety Committees, Internal Responsiblity System and extends to the rights, duties and accountability of all who have a role in workplace health and safety.
The Act prohibits employers from penalizing workers in reprisal for obeying the law or exercising their rights. For more information please refer to the Ministry of Labour guide on Reprisals
